Our firm was commissioned to prepare a comprehensive construction document package for building permit procurement. I led the architectural design and documentation process, developing the project from the client's concept through permit-ready drawings. This role included coordination with Structural and MEP engineering consultants to ensure full integration of all building systems, technical accuracy, and compliance with applicable codes and regulations. Through interdisciplinary collaboration and careful detailing, the project was delivered as a complete, coordinated, and permit-ready set of Structural and Architectural construction documents with MEP documents to soon follow.
Project Overview: This project addressed a critical need for expanded cold and dry storage to support specialized school programs. Faced with significant site constraints, the design utilized two elevated platforms strategically positioned on either side of the existing kitchen dock to accommodate a new walk-in cooler/freezer and dry storage facilities.
Technical Design & Problem Solving: A primary technical focus was the integration of a custom metal panel rain guard. This feature was engineered to divert watershed away from the gap between the new walk-in units and the existing retaining wall, successfully preventing potential frost damage to the structure. The design also incorporated canopies and elevated walkways to ensure safe, covered access to the facility's dumpster area.
Execution & Visualization: Taking the project from a preliminary owner’s sketch through to a full permit set, I was responsible for all design development and detailing. To assist the School Board in the approval process, I utilized Revit 2024 and Enscape to produce high-fidelity renderings, demonstrating how the new metal panel elements would aesthetically harmonize with the existing gymnasium backdrop.
